Default Full Screen Viewer

I am looking for an image viewer with the following properties

- works on Windows Vista
- opens associated images from explorer in full screen mode by double
click
- good quality interpolation
- skips to next image in directory, sorted by exposure date

The last thing is the problem. I tried various viewers (IrfanView,
XnView, FastStone, ACDC), but all of them do not take the next image
properly. Most sort by file time, and some by file date, but not
exposure date. XnView can do the trick, if it goes to fullscreen via
the image browser, but not, when it goes there with double clicks in
the explorer. The very good FastStone has no sort option. ACDC
QuickViewer cannot sort, but can change the file date to the exposure
date. However, I do not want to do that.

Does anyone know such program?

Thanks!

ACDSee Pro is great viewer program and it is color managed as well. I works
full screen and has a good slide show module also. You can sort according to
capture date and time.

Why, in FastStone, do you not rename the files by exposure date and
sort by date? Or assign a date-plus-digit number and sort by file
name? (It does have these options) FastStone has a very quick bulk
renumbering utility in "Tools" that can be easily configured.

FastStone is very good, indeed, and has this feature. But I do not
want to rename or touch my images in any way, just to get the ordering
by date.

It can sort the files only, if you are in the browser. If you open a
file with double click from the Windows explorer, it will not sort the
files. In fact, a different program called QuickViewer (I believe that
is the name - I uninstalled the test version of ACDC) opens with less
features.

Via a file browser, many programs can do this, so I have some choice.
But I want integration of a full screen viewer into Windows. I think
this is not an out of the world request. I used IrfanView, which opens
files quite fast. But I cannot get it to advance to the next image in
the order of exposure date. I like FastStone very much, but the same
problem. The only solution is XnView. You double click, press return
in full screen view, and go back to fullscreen view from the browser.

Understand the problem now?

Have tyou tried to set the Windows file explorer to display the date the
picture was taken (View/Choose Details/Date Picture Taken) and then use
the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer?

The program is called ACDSee (not ACDC) and yes, it will only sort when you
are using the ACDSee browser. In the ACDSee browser you can sort on many
attributes including exif information.

What is wrong with using the browser built into a number of these types of
programs? The reason I use ACDSee Pro is that it is the ONLY viewer I have
found on Windows XP that is color managed. Under Vista the built-in picture
viewer is color managed though.

> Understand the problem now?

Not really, but it seems you insist on using the Windows explorer to
activate pictures. That I don't understand the reason for.

Yes. The explorer shows the "date picture taken", and sorts
accordingly, but not the slide show. By the way, the slide show is
really not a good quality, if you compare to other viewers.

Oh yes, it is ACDSee, Sorry :-)

You are right, if you open a browser beforehand, there are numerous
solutions to it. ACDSee is a good solution, but I don't need it
really, since XnView can do almost the same, and does not cost
anything. All my images are in sRGB, so I do not care for color
management. FastStone can even do that too (but not sort correctly,
sigh).

I often open images from the explorer. Maybe I should get used to open
a browser, and to go full screen afterwards. Most programs can be set
to just this behavior. I just recently started to like FastStone very
much because of its wonderful full screen view, but it cannot sort to
EXIF date.

Thanks for your assistance!

ACDSee Pro is color managed and that is important if you have a calibrated
screen and a high quality screen (read wide gamut). Color management is not
just about conversion between color spaces but also to display a given color
space correctly on a screen using the monitor profile. In ACDSee Pro you
will need to turn on color management and choose the correct monitor profile
as it does not pick it up automatically like Photoshop, Lightroom and other
color managed applications do.
FastStone is not fully color managed as it does not use the monitor profile.
XnView is not color managed from looking at the feature list. Also for
displaying webpages correctly from photographers who care about color, you
need a color managed web browser. There are now two of them Firefox 3.0 and
Safari 3.0. In Safari color management is turned on by default, but int
Firefox you need to turn it on.

It seems to me you are not quite aware of what color management is.

I typically open a picture from the explorer and then a hit return and then
I'm in the ACDSee browser in the correct folder and all sorted to capture
date and time.

I hope this helps.
