I'm thinking of buying a FINEPIX F31FD and the FXF30 waterproof casing for
it as I want to take it on a boating trip and there will be a lot of water
splashing about. It's been used once and I am asked to pay £190 for the lot
which seems a bargain.
I've not met the seller yet and before I drive 100 miles to see the camera
I'd like to hear from anybody thats had any experience with this camera
Will I be able to take photos OUT of the water with the waterproof casing
on, as would happen on a boat, or is there going to be some kind of optical
problem if the camera is not submerged in the water?
Not quite sure this is such a bargain - have you checked out Sainsbury's
recently ?
They often seem to sell off Fuji at a discount and my local store is
currently selling the F31FD for £139.99.
How much is the waterproof case if bought separately ?
Just a thought !

The case, if brought separately, is around £120 from a shop.
You can use the camera in the case out of the water, but it is much less
convenient, and of course you have an extra piece of glass in front of the
lens, which will degrade the quality a bit. Still, it sounds like quite a
good deal and you should seriously consider it. The F31fd has excellent low
light performance (the best in a compact) and quite good overall performance
all around. Even though it is only 6 Mpix it is the carry-around camera of
choice for many pro and semi-pro shooters. It is not perfect, but all
together it is an excellent little machine (with super battery life as well,
which is important when you get it in the case). The price is excellent if
it is in good shape.
