I am considering buying either an EC14 or EC20 teleconverter to use with
a 50-200 lens (Olympus). Which one will be better? For example I have
found the following in Kelby DPB:
"Note : Some pros advise against 2x teleconverters because they feel 2x
photos are not as
sharp and you lose up to two f-stops of light, making it harder to get
the fast shutter speeds
you need...."

...And you may lose AF effectiveness or altogether, even with a 1.4...
No direct experience here (only answering because no-one else is!), so
this is worth what you are paying for it..
I'm from the old school, and back in the good ole days, you simply would
not use a TC on a zoom.. But zooms and TC's are a bit better nowadays,
Oly glass is generally pretty darn good and a quick google shows people
are using the EC14 on that zoom, and that it will still AF. It is worth
noting that other similar f-ratio lenses are not recommended for the
EC14 by Olympus - that suggests you are right on the limit of brightness
for the AF, I believe... So I'd doubt if the 2 would be usable in that
regard. But you didn't say if AF is essential for your intended use?
Good luck - if buying from a store, just ask for a demo, see how the AF
works at the long end of the zoom, and take a few test shots to browse
at home before buying..
