Default Don't buy cheap supplies from eBay

In trying to save a few bucks, I went cheap on a 4gb Sandisk CF card,
and a battery for my DSLR. Even if the vendor is from North America,
which mine was, don't buy cards or batteries on-line from anyone other
than a reputable dealer. Both have crapped out on me.

Any number of you can line up and take turns swatting me in the head;
I *know* I should have known better.

$1,700 wedding, $1,800 data recovery bill to get all the formals
yanked off the piece of sh*t card that caused my D30 to display "CF
CARD ERROR".

You can line up now...

A lot of companies are now warning that internet supplied products are
fakes anyway. If the World's disgusting appetite for cheap beyond
cheap suddenly dried up, so would China's economy.

I don't buy from ebay unless the item wasn't available elsewhere, it's
too much of a hassle bidding and all the other nonsense.
However, if in fact your purchase was a genuine Sandisk card, something
someone is questioning, then the problem was with Sandisk and I would
have contacted them first.

I encourage the battery purchases as they are a fraction of the
originals. I have had positive experiences on 3 purchases from
different vendors so far.

I do feel like I am gambling, though. So far I have come out ahead,
even when I bought a 5GB micro drive that did not work in my camera, I
got a refund and was up money, as he asked what I paid to have it
shiped back, and gave me the amount in USD, even though I quoted CAD.

A friend bought a Sandisc extreme III and it turned out to be fake-
(spelling mistakes on the packaging and no serial # on the card). He
got to keep the card and got a 100% refund for reporting the fake, the
vendor was shut down.

Jim- you are professional- You should have bought locally.

E-bay is for people who can take chances in their own lives, you
almost lost fond memories for someone else's-

BULL****! First off you bought the wrong card for your camera. You should
only be using Lexar. Research your purchase and only buy factory-sealed
cards from reputable dealers. Maybe you bought a counterfeit card? Check
the lot and serial number on the Sandisk sight. Don't blame eBay for your
lack of common sense.

Yep! You should have spent the time researching your purchase that you are
wasting here whining.

You should have downloaded Sandisk's data recovery utility. I sympathize
for you, but this stupidity had the potential to ruin a customer's once in a
lifetime event because you wanted to save $3.00 on a memory card.

Many (most?) of the very cheap 'Sandisk' cards on ebay are fakes.

Use Lexar instead.

Don't try anything professional with a non-professional setup:

You *** would have been saved with the backup card...

Not quite sure I follow your logic. Is Lexar harder to fake or they just
haven't got around to it yet. But of course, I fully agree with the rest
of your comment. The joke of all this is when I've checked ebay (never
purchased), there isn't that much of a savings.

I have had excellent service from both Sandisk, and Lexar, but the Lexar
cards seem to hold a few more photos. Not sure why.
