Default custom function 4 on the 20D

Hi all,
Just been experimenting with custom function 4 on the Canon 20D (and reading
quite a bit on the net too). When set to CF4-1 (*button focuses, shutter
sets exposure) does one just fully depress the shutter or half press? I've
tried both and there seems to be no difference. Sorry if this appears to be
a silly question (there's so much info on the various forums that it appears
to have stumped a lot of people), but I'm so used to half pressing the
shutter that fully depressing in one action seems alien to me (lol).
Advice appreciated.
Cheers,
Paul

When CF 4-1 is set the shutter button acts as the AE Lock button.
Pressing it halfway locks the exposure until you take the pic or let
up on the shutter. With CF 4-1 Auto Focus is attained by pressing the
usual AE Lock button (the "*" button).

At it's default setting (CF 4-0) the shutter button works for both the
AF and AE Lock. I normally set mine to CF 4-1 unless I am getting
someone else to take a pic of me. Setting it back to CF 4-0 makes it
easy to tell them to simply press the shutter halfway to attain focus.

Hi and thanks for the reply. Just looked at the manual (p142) and it
answered my question (despite looking at the manual many times and not
seeing it!) Have you tried CF4-3 it with AI servo for moving birds?
P.S. Really like your photos on Pbase.
Cheers,
Paul
