Default Current Waterproof P&S cameras

In addition to my 20D, I currently have a Canon S50 and a waterproof
case that I use at the beach, snorkeling, and to take some windsurfing
pictures. The s50 plus case works fairly well, but is bulky and it has
a crack in the optical viewfinder lens. So, I'm looking for a new
waterproof camera.
I've looked at the Pentax Optio W30 and Olympus 770SW as the best bets
so far. However, I really want to have an optical viewfinder.. call me
old-fashioned, but I can just frame the pictures better that way. Plus,
even the best lcd screens wash out and are hard to see in the bright
sun like on a beach or out in the water.
The things I am looking for are: good quality image (of course, but I
know it won't be real great.), optical viewfinder, fast 'reaction' time
(when I press the button, I want the shutter to fire 'now'), then all
the other normal 'requirements'...
Is this possible without a standard camera (like the S50) in a case??
If so.. what do you suggest??
Thanks
Mike

No such camera. I suggest learning to deal with LCD only,
because the Pentax W30 is a nice model for what it is.

You covered the drawbacks of waterproof cases.

Waterproof film cameras with optical viewfinders are still available!

You could get an Olympus Stylus WP (current model 770 SW) but it is
an Olympus, if you know what I mean. Nice blue color but no viewfinder.

I feel your pain, having eyes too old for LCD-only models. Can't see
'em in bright light anyway. Currently have my eye on a Fuji S8000fd,
but it is not waterproof.

Over on rec.boats.paddle, kayaker Wilko van den Bergh just sung the praises
of the Olympus 770SW due to its indestructible case and deep-sea diving
capability. On dpreview.com forums it gets the same unber of stars (3.5)
as the Pentax W30.

Thanks for the additional info Bill...
From what I have seen so far, the Olympus 770SW is praised for it's
'construction' (waterproof, crushproof, etc) but has mediocre (or at
least inconsistent) optical/picture quality...
And of course.. no optical viewfinders...

Oh well, perhaps something will come out in time for my next trip where
I'll want one, in December...

I plan to get a Canon A630 or A640 instead of a waterproof digicam.
Optical viewfinder! AA batteries! SD card!

Or maybe the Canon SD800, which also has viewfinder and SD card slot
but requires proprietary LiIon battery. Upside: zooms down to 28mm.

Have Pelican box, will shoot from shore.

Here's a semi-water-proof camera. 2-mpix.

As an added feature, it also has a cell-phone built into it.
