Canon G7 - pinkish tint on LCD during picture taking
In some occasion, and at a very instantaneous moment, I notice that
the LCD has a slightly pinkish tint when you click the shutter button.
Is this normal ? The result is perfectly normal, and therefore only
showing in the LCD screen.
Thanks for info

When I take a photo the preview goes off, leaving a black screen. Do you
mean during preview or review?
The screen has an anti-reflect coating on that can look pinkish in some
light, but only really noticeable when it is off, such as when taking a
photo.

Thanks Rich:
It happens occasionally just a fraction of a second after you press
the button. I could not recall if the LCD screen actually went black/
blank.. I don't think that happens. I know there is an option to keep
blank LCD to safe battery power. But, I cannot remember if it went
blank momentarily when you shoot a photo.
I was so used to an SLR camera, that if I use the zoom, the viewfinder
will reflect the changes. But as this is a "range finder" camera, it
did not happen. However, i am trying to find out if this is the case
on my old Lumix/Panasonic. Somehow I am so used to the see the picture
on the eye piece changes as you zoom in or out... but I guess this
never happens on a "range finder" or "point and shoot" digital camera?
Anyway... thanks for the info

It has to as the sensor has to switch from low quality live video preview mode
to high quality still capture mode, giving no image to preview for half a
second or so.
I have never seen it go pink as it blanks for capture but it is possible that
the LCD may change colour slightly when switching on and off.

The G7 is not a rangefinder as such; it is an autofocus compact.
On my G7 the optical viewfinder zooms with the lens. If yours doesn't then
there must be a fault.

I have a Kodak Z700, among other P&S cameras, where it happens. It's
not perfect, but it scales what you see in the optical viewfinder to
approximately the field of view for the amount of zoom selected.
This feature was also included in better mechanical RFDR cameras.
I'll bet your Canon G7 does this also. In most circumstances it's not
as accurate as what you seen in an SLR viewfinder, but it's definitely
helpful.
Re: Canon G7 - pinkish tint on LCD during picture taking
I've seen something like you describe. In my case it's the low-light
autofocus assist LED (red) slightly lighting the subject before the
picture is taken.

I read the manual and it was mentioned about red colour streaks
occuring , especially if the light is too bright. But it is said that
it is normal, and will not affect the photos. So, it does not affect
my digital photos, so I guess it is OK.
A correction to my previous discussion (and a reply from Richard)
about the viewfinder does not zoom... this is not true. The viewfinder
zooms as you zoom the lens.
I notice, however, the picture that you see in the view finder only
cover 3/4 of the actual photo that is being recorded. The picture
which is shown in the LCD is a better representation of what is
recorded.
A second item that I like to comment is about the zoom button. I
thought the zoom button is rather awkward to us. I prefer to have a 2
button zoom (+ and -). But I guess it is a matter of preference.
Somehow, I could not zoom in and out rather quickly with the button.
Now that S3IS comes up with a new model (S5IS), I wonder if a new
model of the G series will come out soon.
I do not miss the RAW file, as I do not have time to process large
megapixel photos. I even think that 8 MP perhaps the right size to use
on everyday's amateur photos. I don't think that I need a 10 MP
camera.
I try to figure our if Nikon P5000 can have similar photo quality with
the G7.... at a cheaper price. It is not a fully manual as G7, but
when I tried it, picture quality appears to be OK.
