I have had the questionable fortune of doing business with Broadway
Photo in the past. While they're definitely shady, they're certainly not
the worst out there. I did manage, eventually, to get my camera from
them.
Their MO seems to be the usual: they advertise very low prices, get you
to place an order, and then refuse to complete the order until they can
talk to you on the phone and give you the hard sell. Usually they'll try
to talk you into add-ons, extended warranties, or bundle packages, which
are where their real profit is. (Apparently sometimes they add these
things to the bill whether you say yes or not, although this was not my
experience.)
I bought nothing but a camera body from them, and when the inevitable
sales call came, just politely and firmly refused everything they tried
to tack on. Eventually the guy just hung up on me. However, to my
surprise, my credit card was charged correctly, and the camera did
actually arrive a week later, and has worked fine since.
Unless they're the only store that has what you want, at *any* price (as
they were for what I wanted), I'd stay "stay away!" Deal instead with
B&H, Adorama, or one of the other well-known and legitimate outfits.
However, if you *have* to do business with them, it's not the end of the
world, provided you're careful and know what you're getting into.
