Buying used M8-identifying pre-upgrade cameras

Hi, I'm thinking about buying a used leica M8, but I don't want to get
one that was shipped before they fixed some of the major problems with
the earlier ones-is there any way I can identify the later models? Is
there a particular serial number the camera should be after?
