Default Battery charger for England

I have the Konica Minolta Lithium Ion Battery charger BC-900 for my
Konica Minolta Dimage A200 and am going to England for several weeks.
Can anyone tell me what I should do about voltage? (I no longer have
the original documentation from this battery charger and Konica
Minolta is out of the digital photography business so I can't track it
down)

1) Do I need a new battery charger? If so, how/where do I get one that
will be compatible with my battery and work in England? OR
2) Is there some kind of adapter I should buy that would make this
battery charger compatible with the UK's 220 voltage (which is not the
same as Europe's).
I really need to be sure that what I have will work before I leave.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Tracy
p.s. I've managed to find such battery chargers online via stores in
England but think there must be a better way than to purchase from
England pay exorbitant international postage. And maybe I don't need a
new battery charger.

Have you looked at the battery charger itself, or its power supply unit.?
There should be a notice on one or the other showing Input / Output details.
If the Input voltage range includes 220 volt, then your charger will work
almost anywhere in Europe including the UK. You would then only need a plug
adapter, which you could buy once you arrive.

(Us people in Scotland, Wales and N.Ireland take exception to the UK being
described as England).

It's more than likely that the BC-900 will adjust itself to the line voltage.

UK mains voltage is the same as Europe's. Even when it wasn't the difference
would have been unimportant as any decent switchmode supply adjusts to any
line voltage in a very wide range.

Find someone in England near to where you're going and have it delivered
to them? But I'd wait until you get here and order it yourself if you
need it, because I'm very sure the one you have will work.

That doesn't mean much. Manufacturers use the same model number, even if
the device is different in different countries.

What does the label on the charger say about input voltage?

What do you mean? All of Europe, and with very few exceptions (notably
Saudi-Arabia, Japan, Korea, Phillipines, Taiwan, Madagascar, and maybe a
few other small countries) all of Asia, Africa, and Australia have
220-240V, 50 Hertz.

>I really need to be sure that what I have will work before I leave.

You didn't tell us what you have (check that label!) or where you live.
Therefore it is impossible to guess, if
- your current charger will work out of the box (your country is using
220-240V and has G-type wall outlets)
- you need an outlet adapter (your country is using or your charger can
handle 220-240V but the plug is not G-type)
- you need a new charger or a transformer (the charger cannot handle
220-240V)

Thomasdistributing.com carries a large variety of battery
chargers,and some are dual-voltage.

I just looked at one and it's marked 100-220V 50-60 Hz, therefore all you
need is a $2.00 tip adapter to make the plug fit the wall.

Thanks to everyone for responding. Apparently, my battery charger is
fine --
and I ordered several plug adapters online that should take care of my
electrical needs in England. Now I just have to figure out what to do
about getting a cellphone that will work in the UK!

The high streets here are awash with shops that will sell you a
pay-as-you-go SIM for a tenner. Similarly, secondhand GSM phones can be
found everywhere. I have three old ones in this room that I should
recycle -- whoever you're meeting over here will as likely as not be
able to give you one.

Most phones in Europe are 3 or 4 band. I assume the US ones are similar.
They will work anywhere. You should be able to get a "roaming"
agreement with your teleco or pick up a cheap Pay as you go Sim for UK
use.

The pay as you go sim card is a nice way to go, but most US phones are
tethered to a particular carrier, which I believe leaves that option
out. I have an untethered Motorola, and the sim card at Vodaphone kiosk
at Heathrow worked fine.
