I have just purchased a new camera, a Panasonic DMC TZ3. I am a paranormal
investigator and I take a lot of photo's in dim light or total darkness with
the flash on. What settings would you reccommend for the best quality
pictures in these circumstances? My camera has intelligent ISO and I left
it on this setting last night and a lot of my pictures are grainy. I have
been experimenting tonight and used the easy setting and normal picture
setting and they seem much clearer. I have little knowledge about camera's
ans settings so I would be grateful if you could reccommend some settings to
try.
Also, if I want to take a picture of a building that's quite well lit up in
the dark from say 100ft what settings would be best for that? Would the
starry sky on it be a good choice as it has a 15 sec and 30 sec setting on
it which I assume is the shutter speed, obviously I will need a tripod if I
use this.

Do make sure you have ghost removal turned off in your image editor!

That is not a camera I would have chosen for low light work since it
is known to be noisy over 100 iso. If you can return it. A sony out
has night shot IR mode and Fujis are maybe the best in low light.

If you're not even sure that those are shutter speed settings, you'd better
stop and RTFM before you do anything else. If they're off on a separate knob
or lever, they could even be self-timer delays.

Is it really so dificult to read the instruction book? Try that before you
ask for advice.
Take pictures by using tripod, you don't need higher values of ISO this way.
Don't push the shutter, you will get better effects using timer or remote
control,
If the building is partially lighted and partially dark you can solve this
problem taking HDR photos (http://www.hdrsoft.com/).

If he's a "paranormal investigator", shouldn't he be able to intuit the
settings? ;-)
And here's a little hint: shuffle your feet on the floor before you set
off the flash. The vibrations will attract *lots* of spirits, or orbs,
as they're sometimes known.
