Just took delivery of mine last week (2 Jan 08). Only now beginning
to actually play with it.
There are tons of reviews on the net already if you Google it.
One caveat, if you order your system with an nVidia 8800 series
video card, be prepared to call in the order (vs. online). Dell
"should" automatically spec out the higher wattage 425 watt supply
(per their own documentation). That didn't happen with mine. It
was necessary to call tech support to have them send out the 425
watt unit.
Can the 375 watt run the box ? - "probably" - can you run a
Lamborghini Murciellago on cheap 87 octane unleaded ? - "probably".
Question is, do you want to ? I had started another thread on
this below. Dell may rate their power supplies differently. But
it doesn't change the fact, their own documents *require* that any
build with the nVidia 8800 card, should have the higher rated 425
watt supply.
nVidia recommends a minimum of a 450 watt supply. you throw in
the HD blue-ray drive, a set of RAID 1 hard drives, the CPU, etc.
it's pushing that load factor & lowering your comfort margin.
Also check the discussion forums regarding the High Def Cable TV
tuner, there appears to be a tremendous amount of confusion on
the subject. So if you order a cable tuner - carefully check your
options and what you desire to do in the future w/that tuner.
The usual "crapware" could not be deselected (when I ordered online).
On the phone, you might be able to delete some stuff. The "Datasafe"
concept completely alludes me - I want to upload all my personal
files to some remote data storage facility - where control of it is
dependent on the promises of the vendor ? ... yeah right .... call
me "old school", but ain't no way my personal data files will be
surrendered to some unseen remote site. I'll do old fashioned backups
to media I can physically remove and store.
