Vista couldn't care less about MP3s. DRM doesn't come into play for
them.

I was going to cheat a little. I have the XP pro COA off the tower I
bought on Ebay, but just the WinXP Home CD SP1 restore disk
from my original 4550.
I did slipstream the Home Edition and SP2
I was going to borrow a Pro disk from a friend and use the COA
off the other computer which is in parts.

That will physically work, but is, unfortunately, still not legal. That
copy belongs to the dead machine and is NOT transferable.

I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and get a copy.
Well, then I'll have it.

Maybe not, give the integrated HD Audio a listen before spending
anything on a sound card. I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum (the one with
the breakout box) left over from my Dim 8400 but I'm not using it -
happy with the integrated audio in both desktops.
PS: I think you made the right call getting a 410 and hope it serves you
well.

You missed a good one IMHO. I loved W2K, although it did boot glacially
(boot time much improved in XP).

I'd try Vista first. If you just can't live with it, if it was me, I'd
put XP on it and see if I liked it better. Only then would I buy a
license.
Agent 1.93 works fine under vista, so does office 2003.
