Default Would a solid state hard drive X54 be useful in this e1405?

A friend wants to build me a 64MB prototype using fast
parts with fast access -- what should I expect?

you probably mean gb not mb. what you should expect is to get a relatively
small amount of storage space for your dollar but a higher level of
reliability if dropped.
