If I set my Linksys wireless access point
to SSID disabled (which I take it is called non-
broadcasting) I still see the name in the Dell
wireless utility, that being the network it's
supposed to connect to; and it connects.
It it automatically finding the network anyway?
The idea is to make the name invisible to others
most of the time anyway. The question is whether
this is a sign I haven't achieved this.

Why are you trying to do this? It's pointless from a security point of
view and just causes confusion to legitimate users.

To answer your question and more for Linksys access points and
Routers .....
I think you need to reboot the access point to show the SSID disabled.
I think a long time ago I had trouble wondering why my router settings
weren't being saved (spent many hours burning my brains on this) till
I rebooted it. I learned the hard way .
