Default Wireless router as switch?

What do I need to connect a couple laptops wirelessly, using whatever
wireless usually comes with Dell laptops?

Would some sort of wireless router do, if not connected to any
internet?

Default Re: Wireless router as switch?

Two laptops (or any two wifi equipped computers) can be directly
connected to each other using only the laptops themselves (nothing else
at all), by using the "Ad-Hoc" WiFi configuration (this is rarely used,
but ALL WiFi cards support it). However, this is only a laptop to
laptop configuration .... neither laptop will have access to the
Internet. You have to know what you are doing to configure this, there
will be no DHCP server, so you have to manually assign IP addresses.

To connect to each other and the Internet, you need a wireless router
and an Internet connection to the router.
