i think you misunderstood.
that link gets you to the special pricing offer.
then change the specs on that system to match yours.
you will see a better system, longer warranty, better quality for less
money.

perfectly good machine. i would not select the 's' (slim) case but then
again i am the sort that find myself inside a machine upgrading stuff
often... and if you tire of vista and want to install xp then that can be
done too... come back if/when you need pointers to the drivers for xp (dell
doesn't sell this system with xp so understandably don't offer the drivers
on their web site).
i recently managed to get an inspiron 531 with amd 5000+, 1gb, 250gb, ATI
8300gs, modem, dvdrw, vista home basic, 1 year, 24" lcd, $100 shopping
credit for $689 ($589 when you consider the credit). great value machine.
the only negative i can say about it is there is more cooling that in the
intel equivalents so though it is still pretty quiet it is louder than a
intel of roughly the same performance (but the intel also come with a higher
price - so pick your evil).

Just to add to your comments about the cooling on both the Inspiron (and
Vostro, which are essentially the same box) desktops, both Intel and AMD; to
my knowledge, all utilize (2) fans inside the case (aside from the obvious
PS fan): (1) is a case fan mounted on the rear of the chassis, and the other
is an active heatsink fan mounted directly to the heatsink itself.
As a guess, I'd expect the AMD's to be a little louder as they may well run
a little warmer than their Intel counterparts.

The PC is a gift. If I were buying it for myself I'd make it dual boot
w/ XP Pro.
