While I'm trying to google on this, any concensus of opinion on what
is the best procedure for a first time charge on a new laptop (E1405)
battery? I plan to use it sparingly because I'll use the old one most
of the time while being plugged in to the wall outlet. 99% of the
time, the laptop is plugged in.
I bet by the time I get my answer on google I'll have read more than I
want to know about these laptop batteries. Maybe for once I'll get
this right.

sounds like I should pop it in, charge it to 100% and then run it down
to 40% and then take it out for long time storage purposes. The only
bad thing about this method is if I know I'll need it at some point to
run on battery say away from home, I'll have to pre-plan to charge it
back up to 100% just beforehand, I guess. Sounds a bit inconvenient
but I guess I could do that.

Just to add to this, I've emailed PacificBattery.com (place of
purchase) what they recommend but I don't know how quick they will
respond.

Just got the reply from them (a pleasant surprise) and more or less
this is what they said....
Really, the best way to charge the battery is located on the link I
have included below. As far as long life, the first charge is the most
important, which that link will tell you about. Other then that, there
is not a whole lot you can do to get better life. Just charge it
and/or use the battery once every 30-60 days if it sits alot. Thats
really about it.

Sorry for all the multiple posts here but one more question. What do
you recommend for an accurate laptop battery gauge?
According to one of the references, the XP gauge may not be accurate
(news to me, I just assumed it was accurate).

Do you mean to keep it IN the laptop and drain it every
30-60 days even if the laptop is used as a desktop all
the time?

I think they meant if it sits apart from the laptop while the laptop
is plugged in.

You won't be disappointed with your decision to go to Pacific Battery.
I have always received good products and had good service.

Agree. I'm a repeat customer and both times they pleased me so if they
have the next battery I need, I'll be back .
