Just recieved Vista Upgrade which I always wanted to install on this machine
anyway, However tried to do a clean install using the defined method and the
thing wont boot from the dvd drive just comes up with Memory Over run error
but I know the memories ok and that the drive is OK now if I install XP
using the same drive on the same machine everything is ok, and I can run the
upgrade from within windows, SOooooooooo this begs the question have MS
realised their mistake and now you can no longer do a clean install with an
Upgrade version?

I did a clean install with the Dell upgrade doing the 'install twice'
method. Either a bad drive or a bad disk.
Nope its not a bad disk or a bad drive Tom as it works fine just tried it on
a non Dell machine and same thing happens, so maybe just maybe MS have
changed the disk

I'm curious how that proves it isn't a bad DVD? Is it the Dell upgrade DVD?

yep official dell upgrade DVD i guesse it could be a bad DVd but the fact it
auto plays withing the OS would suggest that the leader is ok

Very strange but I definitely do not think it is anything MS or Dell has
done to stop clean installs... Did you try to install it as an Upgrade? If
it works then I would say the disk is fine.. Dumb question but have to ask,
I take it you only have one DVD drive?

it worked fine as an upgrade no problems, and autoran as well without any
prompt, I did try it in another 2 dvd drives with the same effect so the
disk I would say is ok as are the drives.

Wouldn't the same problem happening on other machines say the DVD is bad?
It's failing on them all?
