I purchased a Dell 531 with 19" widescreen monitor on November 17, 2007 from
my local Walmart. However, when I check on my warranty information it shows
a start date of October 4, 2007 which is the date this computer was actually
built and shipped to Walmart NOT the day I purchased it.
Why is my warranty not for the entire year from when I actually purchased
this computer. I don't think it's fair to start the warranty period before
I actually purchased the computer.
Could you please clarify this for me? Thank you for your help.

Good question. Did you ask Dell about this or next Walmart?
In any case I agree with you (not that it matters <g>).

You do realize that this group is not Dell sponsored and none of us work
for Dell? We really can't help you on this one. You need to contact
Dell.
Sounds like a glitch where Dell's systems don't anticipate a retail
sale.
Re: Warranty Length when Dell purchased at Walmart
Thanks for the replys. I did send this same question to Dell when I posted
here. Just thought maybe someone here may have already run into this. I'll
let the group know what Dell has to say when they email back.
Thanks

You need to ask Walmart!

As long as you've kept your original receipt, I'm guessing Dell honors it
from the date of purchase, not the date of build.
However, a call to Wal-Mart is also not a bad idea. It could be that Wally
World might cover some part of the warranty period initially.

FWIW I bought a Dell system in the UK via a retailer special, and my
warranty was shown on the Dell site as starting at the date of their
shipment to the retailer too.
I did query this with the retailer to no avail, but when I checked
with Dell, I discovered it actually had a 3 year next day warranty
(starting from their shipping date) - which was far better than I was
expecting, so wasn't worth taking any further.
Re: Warranty Length when Dell purchased at Walmart
Yeah, if your system lasts 2 years and 302 days, it'll make to 3 years with
proper TLC and no catastrophies to befall it... Ben Myers

Re: Warranty Length when Dell purchased at Walmart
Hey, I've sold a decent number of refurbished 2 and 3 year old Dell systems with
a one year warranty going back several years, and the only warranty service I've
ever done is to replace failed hard drives, usually Maxtors, in 2 or 3 systems.
I also replaced a hard drive for someone whose hard drive in her Dell failed TWO
years after I sold it and maybe 5 years after original manufacture.
Hint: this means you need a good backup system in place. The warranty does not
cover loss of your personal data!
Hint #2: Avoid Maxtor... Ben Myers

When you buy online the warranty starts the date of the invoice, usually
before you have your grubby little paws on it.
