My setup: Dell E520, 2 Vostro Notebooks, Dell Dim, 8200, older HP 932C and
Netgear wireless router(which doesn't have a dedicated printer port but does
have 3 open ports, only the E520 is conected via ethernet cable). I am
looking to upgrade our printer and see there's a very nice Cannon PIXMA
MX700 at Dells Small Biz which is a Lan capable printer. Our present
printer is accesable to the 2 Vostros Notebooks and the 8200 wirelessly
obviously using the E520 as the base (if the E520 isn't on the wireless
computers cannot print). My question is if I set the new Cannon up
connected to the router will the wireless computers be able to connect to
the printer wirelessly with no need for the E520 to be up and running?? I
know it may be a dumb question for my guy feeling is yes but I'm not
confident enough in that feeling to go for it .
yes. if you get a 'network ready' printer then it connects to your network
and can be utilized by any computer on your network. network ready printers
can come in the wired or wireless variety. the mx700 is wired and so will
plug into a network port in your router (so you need an available port).
like your current configuration, the wireless laptops on your network will
be able to 'see' it. unlike your current configuration, you will not have
to leave your wired network pc on in order for others to print to it. you
pc will also be able to print to it... http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...&modelid=15651
