Visa installation as a dual boot on a separate partition
I'm thinking (not sure just yet) about installing Vista as a dual boot
to XP (my existing OS). I saw a lot of threads about this but
couldn't find what I seem to recall how to avoid the conflict with the
restore points.
Will I have a problem installing Vista on a separate partition in a
dual boot to XP ? Any tips to help avoid problems such as conflicting
restore points? (sorry if I'm getting into repetitive info here)
Re: Visa installation as a dual boot on a separate partition <<< Vista not Visa ...sorry

Not too sure about dual boot on one drive.
I have XP on one drive and Vista on another in one computer. I wanted to
keep them completely separate in case they didn't play well together. I
choose the O/S in the boot menu picking the drive for the O/S I want.
XP decided to delete Vista restore points so I went into device manager and
disabled the drive that wasn't in use. ie disable Vista drive when in XP and
viceversa. This solved the restore problem. All my data, photos, etc are on
a 3rd drive so it can be accessed by either O/S. Of course this means that
you need room in your box for 2 or preferably 3 drives (which I Have)

Installing Vista on another partition on the same HD as XP
is done the same way as on a different HD.
As for restore points, I just back up my files often and
make a clone of the entire HD periodically, and I could
care less about restore points.
Thanks Brian I'll check them out. I tried to search more after my
post and I got the feeling the answer to my question was to use
"certain" boot managers to eliminate the "restore points" problem.

There is a video on that site that explains a few ways to prevent losing
restore points. BING is a great boot manager but initially is difficult to
understand. It even allows you to boot Windows operating systems from
logical volumes (if you want more than 3 OS) and to hide all OS except the
one in use. As a test I had 15 WinXPs on the one HD. Each was independent.
