I have an Inspiron 9400 (Core 2 Duo, 2GHz, 2Gig ram, ATI Radeon X1400,
SigmaTel sound) running Vista Ultimate. I purchased a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR
USB2 MCE tuner (this had worked very well with my I9300). After installing
and setting up Media Center I find out that on live TV the video and sound
are out of sync. Haven't had a chance to check if recorded video is OK.
Any suggestions? I have the same question submitted to Hauppauge and am
awaiting their response.

Temporarily turn off any background programs (AV, anti-spyware, software
firewalls, etc....), or better still, go into start/run/msconfig/startup and
(assuming you've previously limited the number of programs allowed to start
when Windows starts) make notes on which programs are checked/enabled. Then
disable all of them if possible. Reboot.
Check performance again and see if there's any improvement....

It's likely a Mpeg decoder problem. What DVD software do you have
installed?

I want to put in a positive plug for Hauppauge. I have an older
version of the tuner you mention. The packaging and features are the
same but some of the internals are older. I bought it over a year ago
for use on Windows Media Center.
Hauppauge is giving me the best technical support of any product I've
owned. My tuner is out of warranty, yet they are still
troubleshooting a problem I have in which the FM radio app doesn't
output any sound.
The support person has been very timely and is keeping me up to date
on their progress trying to fix the problem. If they can't fix it,
they are offering me a new tuner for $29 plus shipping, well below the
retail price.
Whatever came with it. I think it is some version of Cyberlink associate
with MediaDirect.

I've lost track. Is this Vista? If so, download and install the
MediaDirect update. The version shipped had major flaws.
Thanks for your comments, Tom. The whole thing has become moot. I was
experimenting with the WinTV-PVR USB2 and Vista Media Center on my I9400 in
preparation for the real installation on her college 1720. When I bit the
bullet and installed it on her machine it worked fine, so I have lost
interest in tracking down the problem on my 9400 (as well as lost the
tuner!) because she's off to school today.

That's good news. Weird, but good news. I have two of the PVR-USB2 and
have used them for quite awhile without problem, but I don't use MCE to
do it.
Hope she enjoys it!
