I posted recently about a Vostro 1400 I had purchased from the outlet.
Unfortunately, the display was terrible so I exchanged it. The replacement
has arrived and the display on the new machine is vastly improved (though
not perfect). The screen is vibrant and sharp with much better viewing
angles than the returned unit. This panel was made by LG, which is
apparently one of three suppliers Dell has used for the 14" XGA+ screen. I
would be very careful when ordering a WXGA+ display on this model.
Having said that, I love this little guy's simple, attractive design,
excellent battery life and snappy performance. Build quality appears to be
quite good. I don't think you can do better for a mainstream 14" laptop,
especially at Outlet prices.
FWIW, I have a pretty standard configuration: Core 2 Duo 5470, X3100
graphics, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB SATA HDD, DVD-RW, Intel 4965 a/g/n wireless card,
9 cell battery, WXGA+ (1440x900) truelife display. OS is Vista Home Premium.

I got the 6 cell battery in mine, which seems now to be a mistake.
Any suggestions for where to order an extra 9-cell other than Dell?
