I have a Dell XPS 410, Q6600 Dual Core, 2gb ram, 2 320mb HDs, Geforce
7900GS.
My problem is that my usb mouse hangs/freezes every few minutes. The only
solution I have found is to disconnect/reconnect the mouse. This gets to be
a pain in the A... Does anyone else have/had this problem? and if so how did
you fix it?

did you try swapping the mouse out with one from another computer that
works?
i would probably try that first.
if the problem happens with the other mouse, then we gotta look at your
software -- what's running, processes, etc.
could be a rogue program running.
publish a list of processes with a tool like hijackthis.exe

what make/model mouse is it? do you have mouse software installed to
support extra/non-standard mouse buttons? did you previously have a mouse
on this computer with software installed to support extra/non-standard mouse
buttons? do you have a keyboard with software installed to support
extra/non-standard buttons? any joysticks or game controllers ever
installed on this pc?

Its the standred 3 button Dell mouse with no extra software installed for
it. I do have the Zboard Merc keyboard and kb software for it running. I did
swap out the KB with the Dell one but it didnt make a diffence. Oh, and a
usb Logitech Wingman joystick attached without the software for it. BTW,
this machine doesnt have PS2 ports for KB and mouse.

i assume that by you posting this list, that you tried swapping mice.
i see quite a few entries below that are suspect.
they need to be checked out carefully.
these are running right now and could be interfering, never seen them
before. if you don't know what they are, they could be rogue.
*this next one is especially suspect... since it deals with COM services
(i.e. could effect the mouse)
> O20 - Winlogon Notify: ComPlusSetup - C:\WINDOWS\system32\catsrvut.dll
> O21 - SSODL: WPDShServiceObj - {AAA288BA-9A4C-45B0-95D7-94D524869DB5} -
> C:\WINDOWS\system32\WPDShServiceObj.dll <== i've seen this before, harmless,
i usually disable until i know if it serves any purpose.
are you running x10?
this could also affect things.
make sure you know and understand why each o the above entries is there,
do a google search on the programs above. that is what i would have to
do, and see if any of them are rogue.
you can easily disable them with hijackthis and put them back after
seeing what makes it work.
i'm sure you'll find you'll culprit among them.
is the usb mouse plugged into the keyboard or the computer. if on the
computer is it plugged into one of the ports on the back or the front of the
computer.

I can remember when USB mouse first came out and they had to be plugged into
a certain usb port on the back of the computer. The past 2 Dells I have
bought didn't have this requirement. You didn't say but make sure the mouse
is plugged into one of the usb ports on the back of the computer and not a
hub. Outside of the others I would guess the mouse is bad/going bad. Buy a
new one for a few bucks and hope that is the problem.

I had it plugged in the back of the computer, but now have plugged in the
front usb port since it is quicker to pull out and plug back in.
