One reason why I try not to update my OS (one reason is because I
don't know what it's doing). I know there are probably a lot of
holes in my OS but with all those updates and likely more to come, I'm
not convinced my holes are almost gone. Therefore I rely more on my
router and firewall. I'm not saying I can't be hacked but so far so
good. Truthfully my system isn't worth hacking because I have nothing
important unencrypted and if they mess my system up, I just restore it
back.

Yep. Same thing here. Had to switch to medium security to connect to the
internet. The local network through the router worked fine though. I had 3
updates today. One was the malicious software removal tool but I forget what
the other 2 were. Do you know which one is the culprit?

That's why I don't bother updating when I don't know what it's
updating nor trust MS that they test their stuff well before dishing
it out. I really think people are getting a false sense of security
thinking MS updates are helping when there are so many weak spots.
Don't get me wrong, I think XP is a good OS except for security (a no
brainer at this time for most of us).
Re: Tuesday July 8 update doesnt' work with Zone Alarm
The culprit is kb951748. I found a better solution - I uninstalled Zone
Alarm.

What did you replace ZA with if anything, Joe? Comodo, etc?

This was on the wife's computer Stew. I just enabled Windows firewall.
There's nothing on that machine that can't be replaced.
I felt the update was more important than Zone Alarm. ZA is getting
frustrating.
