I am not really wanting to upgrade to 11, but will do this if the
version 10 recovery disk won't find the HDD on a 1330 XPS laptop - I
don't install the program on the hard drive, just do backups using the
disk every month or so onto an external HD.
Thanks.
Andrew.Anyone tried the above combination?
Andrew Hodgson.
TrueImage ver.10 works fine with my Dells using a USB External HDD or other
PC's on a home network, used as backup locations. It contains generic
drivers for USB devices so you should have no problem with an external HD.
It will also find backup files on other PC's on a network through a router.
If your Laptop/PC connects to your network wirelessly, you will need to
connect to the router if recovering a backup from another PC on your
network. Or store the backup files on an external HDD, that you can plug
into a USB port on the unit using a wireless connection.

I was more worried about the chipset drivers for the SATA controller.

On my M1330 laptop, TrueImage10 was a disaster.
Creating an image file runs normally.
But restoring the image to my system partition happened to freeze half way.
The result was that my systempartition was destroyed (unallocated space).
I have tried this several times.
I have explained the problem both to Acronis and to dell support.
Dell would not support this software
Acronis said I had to upgrade to v.11. I am not at all convinced that this would help.
This is the only time I have had trouble with TrueImage.
I have used it for years on 4 different Dell laptops with great satisfaction.
There must be something special with the 1330 SATA interface.....
Andrew,
You need to make sure that you are backing up or creating, an image of your
drive or partition, so when you go through the backup wizard. You need to
make sure that you select to back-up "My Computer", not "My Data". Then
backup the drive/partition. If the controller drivers are installed on your
PC, they will be part of the backup too. So when you select the recovery
wizard, everything should be installed back to that same drive/partition, as
they were when you made the back-up/image of the partition.
Make sure that you "Validate" the backup, when it finishes, it is
frustrating coming back a month later, and finding that the backup went
wrong. If you have the space on your PC, or device that you plan to store
the backups. I would recommend that you create a backup of each partition,
instead backing up all the partitions into a single file. Just in case part
of the backup gets corrupted, and ruins the entire file.

I've gotten lazy and haven't done any TrueImage 10 backups for a while
now. When I first got my XPS 410 with Vista Business, though I did.
The first thing I do with any backup solution is to do a complete
backup and recovery. When I did this, there were some "gotchas" in
which my backup couldn't be recovered unless I did it in some specific
way. I should have documented it because I have forgotten the
details.
So, whatever you decide, I recommend doing the complete recovery cycle
just to be sure that your process really works.

Yes, I do likewise, which is why I asked about the TI 10 working with
the 1330, because I have seen instances where the restore doesn't work
if the drivers are not properly in the Linux based OS used for the
recovery.
As I say, I never use the Windows based app to do the work, just the
recovery disk.

Dimension E521, Vista Home Premium, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE. The first time
I booted TI 10 from the CD, the monitor was black because TI 10 doesn't have
drivers for the video card. I pulled the video card and booted with the TI
10 CD using the integrated graphics. All went okay. TI 10 saw the SATA
drive just fine. Imaging the C: drive went fine.
Restore was another story. Your right to be concerned about TI 10 not
playing nice with Windows. The restore worked but took over 22 hours.
That's about 1,350 minutes. After doing some research, I discovered BART PE
and made a BART TI recovery disk. A restore now takes about 20 minutes.
With TI 10 installed on the hard drive, all goes well and rapidly. TI 10
sees everything on the network and USB... Dean

From Acronis, you can now get a simpler and cheaper imaging tool : Migrate Easy 7.0
Seems to do the same thing as TI 11, minus all the general purpose file back-up
facilities.
