touchpad continuous scroll down

I have a Vostro 1500. If I use the touchpad to scroll down more than a
certain amount, a small scrollbar popup appears, and the scroll-down
continues until I move the cursor again. This is kind of nice, but is
there a way to tweak its parameters? In particular, can I increase the
size of the scroll-down gesture that triggers this behaviour?

there should be a icon in the system tray (lower right hand corner of
screen) for customizing the touchpad settings.
otherwise look in the system control panel.

Tried both of those, thanks - I didn't see anything about this

I agree with Chris (at least for XP which I use) but to put it another
way, look for an icon for a "pointing device" or "mouse properties".

I've had this before, and it's a "feature" of the synaptics pointing
device driver.

Depending on which version you have installed, it may be reasonably
easy to find under the options, but it may be under one of the more
obscure tabs - but I can't remember what they call that particular
feature unfortunately :-} (IIRC it has something to do with
boundaries)

I came to a compromise with one version of the driver (got different
ones on two different laptops), and while still allowing the scroll
feature to work down the side of the pad, you can switch off the
autoscroll once you get to the edge of the pad.

in xp, the 'dell touchpad' (dell branded synaptics touchpad) applet that
sits in the tray could not be more obvious about how to customize the
touch/scrool settings. sounds like you have vista (not mentioned) for which
i have no advice for you.

I hadn't looked in the driver, but it looks like I have one of the
versions that doesn't let me customise this.
