I CTL+F11'd myself (at the Dell splash) to death on my XPS420 only to learn
that it's no longer valid as a means of reaching the Dell image/system
restore process. I don't know if this is a universal truth for Dell Vista
systems or just mine, but I suspect it's a Vista 'feature'.
F8, then chose "repair" followed by a nice GUI that includes all sorts of
nice options from a Windows system restore all the way up to the full Dell
image restore.
I'm sure someone has already posted this, but if so I missed it. If not,
enjoy.

Yep it is integral to Vista now and Dell chose to use it.

Am I safe in assuming that the original partitioning does remain intact?

Don't know for sure, but I would expect so. You can change partition
sizes in Vista non-destructively too (although not by a lot)

Does Partition Magic 8 work in Vista ? I ask this even tho my guess
is no. In any case Acronis Directory Suite (I think version 11) works
for Vista. I'm safe for now since I'm still with XP.

Last time I checked (about a month ago), no PM for Vista.

Paragon software makes a variety of Vista compatible partitioning SW.
