Default SATA II Hard Drive Preference?

This is for an E510. I used to prefer Seagate, but my latest
purchases have been Westerns, and they have been very dependable and
quiet.

Is there a strong preference between these? Both are 250GB, 16MB
cache, factory sealed OEM. I realize I'll have to get a right angled
SATA cable. Proper power connector is provided by the E510.

Western - 3 year warranty - $75

Seagate - 5 year warranty - $82

Many thanks.

Boris,
I would go with the Seagate, for the extra $ 7.00, you get an additional two
(2) years of warranty service. For me, that would give me some "peace of
mind", with the purchase.

The warranty probably doesn't matter. It's the data that you're risking,
and they're not offering to warrant that. Just some fairly cheap piece
of hardware, which they're happy to replace at whatever failure rate it is,
at some time in the future when technology is even cheaper.

That is to say, the present value of the warranty is probably zero.

No "strong" preference but I'd go for the Seagate if available.

I've had good luck with the WD's, but have been buying Seagates lately.
No empirical data to support that conclusion, just a gut feel.
With hard drives it is not a matter of "IF" they fail, its "WHEN".
Failure is not as predictable as batteries in a flashlight though.

You'll do well with either I'd think. I prefer and use Seagates currently.
