....the Vostro V200 mini tower (MT) model takes full-height PCI-E
graphics cards, doesn't it? Was going to put an 8600GT or similar in
one - does it have sufficient extra power connectors or am I goign to
have to find an adaptor?

Ric -
Dunno, but I'd rather put that money and card into an XPS410 from the outlet
rather than the Vostro (assuming you can get comparable specs for similar or
less $$$).

Vostro w/ C2D, 2GB RAM, 320GB HDD on offer at 259UKP presently: have
ordered one for mate. Bargain. Just checking that the dell sales
reps were correct in confirming full height PCI-E card slot.

And bargain is the operative word.
Post back with your comments once you get it. Enjoy.
The Vostro 200 MT does not have the PCI-E power connector and you can't fit
a cable as all the power connectors are SATA type. i.e. no Molex power
connectors at all.

oh, FFS. dammit.
looks like either an 8600GT (no extra power connectors), some weird
jury-rigged sata->molex adaptor, or a new PSU.
does the V200 have a spare SATA power connector inside the case? dell
phone support are unable to understand this question...
cheers!

I'd be surprised if it didn't. Couldn't this issue be cured with a "Y"
adapter (SATA > 4 pin) cable?

You'd think, wouldn't you? I've found a (US) supplier of SATA->molex
adaptors, but not SATA->PCIe power adaptors. Think I'm going to go
for fitting an 8600GT which doesn't need PCIe power - although the
easiest and cheapest alternative is probably to swap out the PSU
provided Dell is using a standard form factor one - usually you need
to find one without a power switch on the rear, for example...
Would it *really* kill Dell to fit the same PSU in this model as they
do in their others, and provide some more useful expansion? I know
Vostro's kind of aimed at business, but you'd think the cost savings
in standardisation would even out with the fraction of a cent
difference in cost...
