OT: Sygate Personal Firewall Pro 5.6 work on VIsta?
I'm trying out this old firewall in place of ZoneAlarm but wonder if
anyone knows if this Sygate firewall works with Vista ? I couldn't
see anything about this elsewhere. It seems to make my xp system run
faster but sadly I may have to give it up if it won't work with Vista
later. Reviews for Sygate are good and Shields Up showed it passed
with flying colors on my system.

If no one posts, I'll try to download and install it today on my notebook
and report back. I just installed it yesterday on an older Win98 system.
I know you understand that Vista supposedly has an improved in/out native
firewall.....

Thanks Stew for that. No need to rush as I won't go to Vista till
next year but I just want to have a plan if I have to replace Sygate.
Sygate seems okay so far tho I don't really know how it compares to ZA
or Kaspersky (aside from the reviews) in experience. One thing that I
do like about Sygate is that it seems to make my system run faster. I
read that it takes less resources than many others and I think it is
true based on my xp system. I still see things pop up for dll's with
Sygate and that doesn't bother me. What bothered me was that suddenly
ZA was blocking some sites it didn't do before. I thought about
uninstalling it and reinstalling it but decided to try another
firewall that people liked. Of course Sygate wasn't the only choice
but I guess it seemed like an old favorite among users (not sure about
the reviewers). Shields Up gave this firewall on my system a glowing
report but that doesn't mean I'm hack proof, I know better but
nonetheless, it shows at least I have decent protection. Anyway I'm
behind a router so the combo should be adequate protection.

Why don't you check with Sygate?

RnR -
Doesn't work. "Incompatibility" warnings both before and after install.
Program won't initialize after being installed.
Had to remove it. Didn't have time to drill down for specific reasons or to
see if Sygate has a workaround.

No longer exist; it was bought out by Symantec and then was no longer
supported.

Thanks a bunch Stew for your efforts. Likely no workaround since the
software is no longer supported by the new owner Symantec.

You're welcome. Vista didn't like it at all.........not one bit. g
