It's all very well for the Poms. Here in Oz we're restricted to SP#.

Mel, I can't answer you for sure but if you decide to go for it....
FIRST make a full backup just in case !!!
I was debating like yourself and decided to stay put with SP2 because
I know what I have, it's working okay and not ready to mess with
another MS product. I remember my dad telling me years ago, if it's
not broken, don't fix it so I'll use this reasoning for MS. Of
course you don't have to agree with me but please back up first. And
if you care to, check that the backup works (I've had backups fail for
whatever reason and the worst time to find out is when you are in need
of it). Just speaking from experience.

but you went from SP1 to SP2...............
the only problem I encountered was with D-Link but that was no big issue.

Correct and still don't recommend playing with fate (MS fate that is).
As I said, don't have to agree with me but a backup would be wise
first.
I totally agree with you. I do, however, do the Windows Updates.
But I have not dne the SP3 NOR IE 7.0 (I still use 6.0). I understand there
is now an IE 8.0 Beta!
Yes, I don't want to tempt fate.
It's a shame computers can't be like TV's. Put it on and it works with no
aggravation and ridiculous upgrades, virus/spyware scans, etc.

the only problem i have encountered with windows xp sp3 is that is it can
result in older windows updates from being applied. for example, if you
install ie7 after sp3 then you will not be able to update ie7 unless you
re-register the older windows update utility. so, if installing windows
from scratch, be sure to install ie7 and update it before installing windows
sp3. if you already have ie7 and all other updates applied then this is not
an issue.
