OT: Resetting newsgroup meassage counters in Windows Vista Mail
My home ISP (Time-Warner) has discontinued USENET so I have tried a new free
server at Motzerella.org (sp?). I can post to their servers but no messages
appear when I synch the accounts. I emailed their support and they said it
is probably because my newsgroup message counters need to be reset. They did
not know how to do this. I tried Google to no avail.

Tools, Options, Advanced, Maintenance, Clean Up Now button, then
press the Reset button in the Local File Clean Up window.

I'm not familiar with how Windows Vista Mail works with Usenet. With
Forte Agent, which is what I use and recommend, I'd probably delete
all messages and then "retrieve all" messages for the newsgroups I am
reading.
Perhaps Windows Vista Mail has similar functionality that you could
try.
Re: OT: Resetting newsgroup meassage counters in Windows Vista Mail
Thanks Tom.
I'll give it a try tonight.

Thanks Journey,
This will be on my list of things to try if Tom's method doesn't work.

Re: OT: Resetting newsgroup meassage counters in Windows Vista Mail
mike, the problem is likely because not only did time warner stop hosting
usenet news but they are likely also blocking the common ports used for
usenet. i don't know motzeralla.org, but i do know that http://www.aioe.org/ offers free public usenet servers and they offer
standard and non-standard ports so that you can get around horrible internet
service providers that try to block the standard ports. very simple site,
very easy to configure. only down side is that they don't keep much more
than 30 days of history, have no binaries, and restrict your daily volume of
uploads and downloads - not a problem if all you are doing is reading a
handful of newsgroups and posting under 150 messages per day.

I might add that if you use uncommon ports, you may have to address
this issue in your firewall.
Re: OT: Resetting newsgroup meassage counters in Windows Vista Mail
