On the other hand, this Hauppauge HD PVR is shipping. Don't know about
MCE support, but the latest release of Snapstream's BeyondTV supports it
in beta form.
The recordings from HBO, etc. are fantastic and DRM free.

I don't know why Microsoft lolligags around with operating system
functionality that could be of strategic importance. They have had a
huge head start. Apple's probably going to improve Apple TV in the
not too distant future, esp. now that developers are freed up from
iPhone 3G development.
Microsoft should leverage its OS advantage and make _every_ version of
Windows a Media Center computer, and it should continuously improve it
to be the best. Beyond TV isn't exactly a moving target and is an
example of what MS should have matched and exceeded by now. It seems
that MS starts out with a project / product / idea, brings it to a
certain level, and then stalls.
