I'm thinking notebook, I'm thinking Vostro 1000 and as of today anyway,
it's $599. The only thing maybe I would add would be the TrueLife
screen, opinions please on the notebook and the TrueLife screen. Thanks.

As you're probably aware, the "TrueLife" screen has a glossy finish.
And while this does serve to make the colors look deeper and more
saturated, I think it can be fairly said that using the system
outdoors in the sun is a major pain. My Macbook (which has the same
screen finish as is used on the TrueLife panels) is very difficult to
use in the sun. The panel itself is at least somewhat
transflective...were it not for that, the display would be completely
unusable. Not only does the sun reflect brilliantly off the display,
but it also makes other things reflect in the display and the dust on
it becomes very visible.
I really haven't found it a problem (at least not yet) to use such a
display indoors. You do pick up reflections from ceiling lights if the
display is angled toward them, but I have found them fairly easy to
ignore.

Comments / Questions:
- What processor?
- Have you considered a higher resolution screen?
- 2G = good, esp. with XP Home
- I would go with the Intel 3945 wi-fi card
