if you are talking about ordering a brand new spare drive from dell, it
will come with no partitions.
it will also come with a one year warranty,
i do not suggest you buy from dell.
look at newegg.com or buy.com and be sure to get at least a 3yr warranty
(western digital) or 5 yr (seagate)

Agreed. I'd only add that you shop the drive between newegg.com and www.zipzoomfly.com .

check reviews on zipzoomfly.com. They aren't as good as once before
(reselleratings.com) if you go by more recent ratings. Of course
lifetime ratings are still okay but they are sinking because of the
more recent ratings.

Do you have a HPA on your current HD? Is that why you are asking?

I don't think so in this case.
I believe about year and a half ago or so I had to deal with a hidden
partition from Dell and I used Acronis Disk Director Pro to handle it.
I think I tried Partition Magic at first (because it was my favorite
for many years) but it would not work on it so I began to try other
softwares.
