New Dell laptop with Vista Basic. How much to upgrade to premium later?

I'm looking at Dell laptops for myself and a couple of friends. If I get a
laptop with Vista Premium it costs $30 more than Basic. If I decide to
upgrade to Premium at a later date will it cost more than that?

The general consensus is that Vista Basic is just one step above useless.
Configure the units with Vista Premium.

you are better off upgrading to XP Pro from the start.

Vista Basic is one of those things that baffles the mind as to why MS
even bothered with it. Get Premium or Ultimate.

It will cost you a lot more than $30 bucks to upgrade later. Check out
the cost of a Vista Home Premium Upgrade package...

I thought that would be the case. I just wasn't sure where to look and
figured somebody had a real world figure on what it cost to upgrade to the
next level. It is possible without getting another CD or DVD, right? As I
understand it all the files are already there, just not unlocked?

It's a no-brainer. Pay the $30 more. I don't know if Dell has a "XP
Downgrade" option like some computer providers. If it does, that is
what I would do so you'd get both OS's and can start out with XP if
you think you may have incompatible programs.

Yes, significantly. Basic also lacks Aero and other features.

Spend the $30 now.
