Laptops: Wrong screen resolution when coming out of sleep
Hello,
I have two Dell laptops, an XPS 1210M and an Inspiron 6400. Both have
1200x800 screens. The XPS is running Vista Ultimate, and the 6400 Vista
Business.
On both machines, about 50% of the time when they come out of sleep mode,
the screen resolution is being set to 1024x768. I can easily change it back
again, but it's a bit of a pain.
Has anyone else noticed this issue, or know a fix for it?
Re: Laptops: Wrong screen resolution when coming out of sleep
Adam, I have the same problem - in reverse. My
e1405/Vista/2GB/IntelVideo/WXGA+ native resolution is 1400x900,
but coming out of sleep it's often 1024x768. Dell ran me through
the hoops including the installation of an OLDER Intel driver,
but the problem persists.
I've officially told Dell that if this can't be fixed we're
sending these back and returning to HP.

Thanks, that's intersting to know.
Hopefully they'll come up with a fix at some point.

Re: Laptops: Wrong screen resolution when coming out of sleep
My first 640m (same as 1405), which I had in February, had video
problems. Because it was still within 21 days, I sent it back to Dell
for a replacement. The replacement system, which I received in March,
doesn't have any problems. If there is anything I can do to help you
diagnose the problem let me know (post video driver version, etc...).

Re: Laptops: Wrong screen resolution when coming out of sleep
Hi,
Thanks very much.
I'm pretty srure it's something to do with the Intel Graphics Media
accelerator driver - I've never seen this problem on other laptops, and yet
both the Dells I have which have this problem are using this driver.
The driver version I have installed on one of them (can't check the other at
the moment) is 7.14.10.1147. I can get teh Intel driver info by going to
the Advanced Settings from within the Display Settings options.
Do you have this driver installed? If so, which version?
Thanks.

Re: Laptops: Wrong screen resolution when coming out of sleep
You are right - it's a conflict with the driver.
I installed the previous edition of the Intel driver...
6.14.10.4814 instead of 7.14.10.1147.
I still have a problem getting two different resolutions (one
for the laptop, one for the monitor), but that will probably get
fixed in the next edition.

I have the newer of the two drivers installed and different
resolutions for my monitor and laptop work without any problems.

There are a couple of things that you can do to fix this problem.
Update the settings in so they arent default settings then shut down
the computer completely so it updates your registry or you can
manually edit the registry by going to this link and following the
instructions. http://www.computerperformance.co.uk..._hibernate.htm
BE ADVICED EDITING REGISTRY CAN DO MORE DAMAGE TO YOUR SYSTEM, if you
dont know what you're doing dont do it.
