Inspiron 1520 - Hard drive noise?

Has anyone noticed that when sitting in a quiet room, they can hear a sort
of scratching sound coming from their Dell laptop? I hear it coming from the
top left of my Inspiron 1520. Could this be the normal sound the hard drive
makes?

You should hear nothing. Sure, if you put your ear against one of the
exhaust ports you should be able to hear the fan running, but a scratching
noise is not a good thing.
