I'm having problems with my Inspiron 1000 which is about 2 years old.
It boots and works just as it should however, if i move the screen forward a
little it hangs, the scren blanks and I have to push and hold the power
button and restart to get it to work again.
My guess is a loose connection or broken wire somewhere. Any ideas where to
start looking?
Having recently torn down a couple of Inspiron 1000s, I have a good mental
picture of how they go together and how they come apart. The Inspiron 1000,
unlike other models with similar chassis (e.g. 2200) does not have a built-in
wifi antenna inside the LCD lid to complicate matters. That one is ruled out.
To open up the Inspiron 1000 (no service manual from Dell. Boo! Hiss!),
remove battery, hard drive and DVD/CD-RW drive; remove all screws from the
bottom, then carefully remove the strip between the keyboard and the lid. The
keyboard assembly lifts out, but pay attention to the keyboard cable. The LCD
cable connects to the motherboard underneath the keyboard. Make sure that the
LCD cable connector fits snugly into its socket. Otherwise, inspect the inside
of the system for loose wires or (unlikely) wires with bared insulation.
Truly isolating the cause may require substituting parts which you do not have.
Good luck... Ben Myers

try going to start settings and control panel, then find the power
options and choose advanced.
there is an option there intitled "when i shut the lid of my
computer
change this to do nothing and see if the fault is still there
I dont know how far over you are closing your lid but they dont need
to be all the way for the little closed lid plasticy sensor thing
(excellent technical description there) to think the lid is closing
other than that it could be a loose connection on the LCD inverter
board and/or the video cable both of which are easy to reseat. These
are located behind the LCD panel and it will take you about 30-40 mins
and a little patience to figure it out if you havent removed an LCD
before
