Helped my dad set up a new Inspiron (530 or 540??). I don't have the Vista
OS yet so it was all fairly new to me. I've worked with Vista just a little
on my daughter's computer. I was surprised to see that the "sidebar" on
dad's computer was a Google Sidebar. A couple of days later I find out that
Window's Vista has it's own sidebar.
So how/why is there a Google sidebar on his brand NEW computer? Don't
understand why Dell would ship with a Google sidebar if it's part of the
Vista OS. At the time, I hadn't installed any software. I just ran the
setup as instructed. I'd hate to think that he got a used computer.

What makes you believe it is the Google sidebar? Are you sure it isn't
just a Google widget?
Regardless, if it is a Google sidebar, it shipped that way because
Google paid Dell.

It takes me a couple of hours to find and uninstall Dells bloatware on a
new system. Googles spyware is always the first to go. During the
install the process pauses to ask me if I am sure I know what I am doing
and to ask why. Cause I don't want your spyware on my machine is my
answer. On demand Google searches work just as fast when I opt for
Google. But their growing reputation as haters of liberity has me using
Yahoo as my first choice.
