We went to the Dell site to buy another one, and there is no
14.1" unit listed in HOME. The 630M appears to be new, though.
Why use a number smaller than the predecessor?

The 630 is a Latitude D630 which replaced the Latitude D620. It's a fine
machine, I bought one for my daughter to take to college.
The D630 Latitude is a better system. Newest processor and chipset. Better
integrated video. Standard 3 year warranty.

They are two different laptop designs, so it's a matter of opinion
which one is better.
Vista Premium, for example, isn't available on the D630. For someone
who wants media-center features, that is the best OS to have. On the
base-level 630, which comes with XP Home, an upgrade to Vista Ultimate
is $150 (and no option for premium).
The LCD panel option does not include TrueLife which many people like.
New Inspiron models should arrive soon, so it will be interesting to
see how they compare.

It looks like it's finally totally off the Home website. For a while
it didn't show up other than to click the 14.1" hyperlink to the left
of the laptop choices. Now even that's gone.
There have been multiple mentions and some pictures of new Inspirons
and possibly a new 13.3" on the way (XPS or Inspiron... don't know).
There have also been mentions of a new XPS to replace the M1210 with a
LED-backlit screen and slot-loading DVD drive.
At this point I'd wait before making any purchase decisions (IMO).
