"Display Driver nvlddmkm (fill in name of brand driver Nvidia, ATI, Intel)
stopped responding, has successfully recovered"
Virtually every forum from each computer brand and system builder and each
company involved, you see people clamoring for a solution:
"Display Driver nvlddmkm stopped responding, has successfully recovered"
The dreaded error, that makes all the promises of high end computing and
supposed "better performance" a lie---until they fix it....no date for a fix
is found.
Even reasonable requests for more information from Nividia results in even
very polite posts being deleted
All these threads below are people asking for help and complaining and
trying every possible thing to eliminate the errors from computer systems,
containing all the best and most expensive components.
With the exception of one vague statement from Nvidia, nothing is be heard.
No fix. No solution. No info.
This list of threads below is just the tip of the iceberg.

It sounds as though whatever the problem is, it is not a product of
vendor specific display drivers. (Although the "nv" reference in the
driver name does make me wonder...)
I'd look for either a Hotfix or a Vista service pack to address this
issue. Haven't seen it on the few machines I'm running Vista on.

In my own case the error is a nvlddmkm error is the Nvidia driver, but ATI
and Intel video cards have it too--just different file names.
Two weeks ago MS released some hotfixes that help a little, but not
much...then a couple days ago they released a new one which seems to disable
or change the TDR process,..so instead of the black screen and lockups in a
application/game one get a full BSOD referrencing the video driver.
I recieved my Alienware ALX machine back 3 days ago after most all the
components were replaced, did the updates and have received 3 BSODs just
browsing.
If you aren't having the issue it might be better not to do some of the
early release hotfixes. The most recent one was part of a auto update
however, so the TDR message may be disabled. (not sure yet).
My take on this is that MS had realized that the TDR process/feature, which
is designed to eliminate video card based BSOD's in Vista, is not yet
compatible with the recent hardward combinations and the drivers so they
have done something to it in the hotfix, that puts the burden back on the
Video card companies.
If you arent getting this error consider yourself lucky so far and cross
your fingers.
