I recently bought XPS420, with the same processor, with Vista.
(It's for an office here, but I do deal with it daily.) It is meant
for
a lot of processor intense, multitasked, scientific computing: in
short, it flies. No complaints about performance. I suggest that
you 'tune it up,' as people say in this thread. Or of course, if you
desire, you can just wipe it out and put XP on it instead.
Btw, Q6600can be overclocked easily; for all I know this is a
provided feature, since versions released some time around
August last year.
Having Vista dual boot with XP is a little project. It's not such
a big deal, but there are a few issues to watch out for. It has
been discussed in this newsgroup, maybe you can search
for those threads?
