Maybe Mixer was the wrong word. I just meant that whatever sound is playing
on the computer (wav, mic, line-in, midi, ect.) can be set in Audacity to
record. Did you try it or did you just assume it wouldn't work? Not trying
to be a smart-a**, just curious.

yes, I did try it.
The problem is that mixing is not an option when I tried to set the
preference in Audacity.
I am told that this is because my sound drivers do not support mixing.
Hence, I am trying to find a free programme that will record straems
without using the sound chip ( I have on-board sound). Evidently this
is possible if I can find the appropriate sound capture programme.
