Default Dimension 9100 and 640GB hard drive

I have Dimension 9100, still running the original A01 BIOS, running
WinXP Pro SP3. Is there any reason why a 640GB hard drive wouldn't be
recognized with this setup?

Thanks!

Are you asking because you have one and it isn't being recognised? If
so, then that could be because it requires too much power in total to
run all your stuff, what else have you got connected?

If you are asking because you want to get one, then it shouldn't be a
problem as long as your PSU can run everything you have connected.

Thanks for your response.

I'm asking because I'm considering adding one. Right now I have only
the original 160GB hard drive and the DVD-RW and DVD-R that came with
the PC. I hadn't even considered the power supply - I was more
concerned about the BIOS, motherboard and drivers, etc., . . .

Then there is the other issue of do I install the 640GB drive as a
secondary drive for data only or do I make it my primary drive and put
WinXP and my applications there so they can take advantage of the
greater speed . . .

I have a Dell 9100 that was delivered with a 500 MB SATA drive and two
DVD drives. I have replaced one of the DVD drives with 350 MB ATA hard
drive, with no problems of any kind.

My 4550 and 8400, both of which predate your 9100, support 750GB drives
(I know for a fact). The former ATA/IDE and the latter SATA.

Should work just fine.
