Contact Dell and pay a few bucks to them for a legit copy of Dell's Windows XP
CD. That is the open-and-above-board way to do it, and keep the Microsoft
software cops happy. XP drivers can be downloaded from either the Dell or the
Intel web site.
You need Windows XP SP2. Install it, then install the drivers starting with
those for the motherboard chipset... Ben Myers

Vista runs flawlessly on my XPS410, after some fairly minor tweaking.
If you share your challenges, we can likely help you. The 420 was
designed for Vista, so XP may not be perfect (will run, but....).
