Default Dell and XP Query

OK-- I was starting to look at some laptops on the Dell Site. I figured the
Dell Outlet would have laptops with XP. But they don't.

Is it impossible to buy a Dell Laptop with XP from Dell Outlet? What about
from Dell -- is that a possible option?

XP is available on lots of laptops from Dell Small Business Outlet. They
have Latitudes, Precision Work Stations, and Vostros with XP Home, XP Pro,
and Vista down-grade to XP Pro.

Jay and Rich:

OK. I had been checking the Dell Outlet looking at Inspiron 1525. I
sepcified pricing under $500. They listed a whole bunch, all with Vista.
When I then specified XP for the operating system, it listed none. So I
thought there were none. Perhaps they are available at a higher price.

I can't speak specifically about XP but I know the outlet keeps
changing so you should keep checking often and maybe you might find an
XP system in your parameters. I remember I couldn't find a system in
my parameters so I'd check different times of the day and different
days too until it popped up and then I had to have a fast trigger
finger.

yes, its possible that the price was too low.
they charge $100 more for the luxury of dual license with xp and vista
business.
you'll see a lot more availability from the small business side.

Do you have to justify anything to buy from that side.
In other words, is a business license required.

no, not at all, if they require a business name, just use your name again.

i often find better prices there than on the consumer side.

XP not available on 1525!!!!! 1525 only came with Vista in last few months.
They were offering XP on the 1520 Inspiron on the Small Business site two or
three months ago and then as June 30th got closer and closer XP disappered
as a choice.\

If you go to Dell Downloads you will see that there are no "official" XP
drivers for the 1525 but there were/are for the 1520. I imagine you could
buy a 1525 and judiciously use the 1520 drivers.

There are a posts in the Dell forums for getting XP to run on the XPS M1330
eventhough there are no official XP drivers listed. A number of the Vista
drivers also do XP and a few are hidden.
