If I buy a Dell laptop now, does anyone know whether Vista SP1 will
come slipstreamed with this, or will I have to upgrade later? I am
holding out as I want the slipstreamed version.

Just a guess, but I'd say it is too soon. Haven't seen any comments
here about a new machine with it yet.

I think I read that MS is going to release SP1 in March.

Ok, I think I misread that it was out somewhere. I originally thought
it would be in March also, hence why I was asking.

Actually it is released as RTM now but not till March for the public
is the latest I've read.

That was it, I misunderstood RTM as being released software. Sorry
about that.
If you purchase by phone you could ask the sales rep, they might know or
not.

If I were buying a system with Vista today, I'd choose pre-SP1 and
update it with the latest updates/patches. I tried SP1 (RTM) and saw
zero changes in performance and one BIG show-stopper: The Explorer
right-click menu "search" function--excellent by any standard--is no
longer with us in SP1. This apparently is tied to a legal thing with
Google or something. Maybe it will return in SP2 or SP3.

RTM= 'released to manufacturing' (ie- Dell, HP, Lenovo, Sony, etc....) but
not necessarily to the public at large, fwiw......
If it's been RTM'd, I'd expect to see it show up on new machines on OEM
sites and elsewhere after they figure out what it breaks. ;-)
